Tonight's Wind-Down
A Sylvia Says™ Practice for Settling Into Rest
I've spent almost three decades sitting with people who carry the day in their bodies long after the day is over. The mind knows it's time to rest. The body doesn't always get the memo. This is a practice, under three minutes, for closing the gap between the two.
BEFORE YOU BEGIN
Dim the lights. Put the phone somewhere you can't reach it without standing up.
That's not a rule; it's just honest: the body can't settle while it's still half-braced for one more notification.
THE PRACTICE
1. Land
45 seconds
Sit or lie down. Let your eyes close. Name three things true right now: where you are, what time it is, that the day is done, whether it feels finished or not.
2. Empty one hand
60 seconds
Think of one thing from today still sitting in your chest, unfinished, unresolved, or just loud. You don't have to solve it. Picture setting it down, just for tonight, the way you'd set down a bag you've been carrying too long on one shoulder.
3. Breathe the countdown
60 seconds
Inhale for four counts. Hold for four. Exhale for six. Repeat four times. The longer exhale is doing the real work here, it's the body's own signal that it's safe to stand down.
There's no wrong way to do this, and no version of tonight that requires you to do it perfectly.
A NOTE FROM MERest isn't something you earn by finishing everything. It's something your body needs regardless of the list. I built the Distance Reiki Bundle for exactly this kind of unfinished tiredness, the kind sleep alone doesn't always reach.
If tonight's practice was a start, the Bundle goes further. Sessions open this October.
